Vale: Ross Buckley

It is with the deepest regret that the Meadows Bowling Club wishes to announce the passing of Ross Buckley. Ross was a Life Member of the Meadows Club holding many administrative roles as well as green keeper and maintenance. For many years the club's bar has been named "The Ross Buckley Bar" in his honour. Ross was a club champion many times over, in fact he holds the record for the most singles titles at the Meadows Club.

GUMERACHA WIN CHAMPIONSHIP FOURS.

Gumeracha have won the Hills Champion of Champion Open Fours, with the semi finals and final all played at the Mt Pleasant club. After a difficult semi final against Meadows the Gumeracha team easily out played their Mt Pleasant opponents to win the OPEN Fours sponsored by Klose's supermarkets.

Two new singles champions

The Hills Bowling Association singles championships have two new champions, with Alex Reynolds from Woodside winning the ladies and David Gleeson from Uraidla winning the mens championship. All of the matches for both the ladies and men were played at the Woodside club over the past two Friday evenings.

Finals 2018

The Semi-finals for Saturday Open Div. 1 is to be played at Woodside, Div. 2 at Lenswood and Div. 3 at Oakbank, with all matches starting at 1 pm for finals. The Mid-week Wednesday Div. 1 finals are at Woodside, with the Div. 2 matches at Oakbank also starting at 1pm. The Ladies Semi-finals will be played at Mt. Pleasant starting at 10am. All other final matches are yet to be scheduled.

START TIME'S REVERT Back to 1.30pm.

A motion to start Pennants at 1.30pm has been passed by the Hills Delegates at a Special meeting on Monday night 12th Feb 2018.The Motion put forward by both Gumeracha & Meadows with support from Oakbank for the 1.30pm start, relates to both the 2 remaining matches of all Saturday and 3 weeks of all Mid Week pennants, that motion was PASSED 19 - 6 votes. A second motion again put forward by Gumeracha to have Division 2 Saturday pennants, revert back to 25 ends was LOST 8 - 17 votes. Another Motion from Meadows to have all pennant matches be played over 21 ends was LOST 6 - 19.

PAIRS CHAMPIONS DECIDED.

Hahndorf and Lobethal have each won the Hills Champion of Champions Pairs tournament. Played at Lenswood, the Hahndorf pairs combination of Christine Keller and Carolyne Edwardes are now back to back winners. Lobethal's combination of Wayne Zilm, along with Mal Jonas playing as a substitute took out the Men's championship.

Pairs Championships.

The early rounds of the Hills Champion of Champions Pair's for both Men and Ladies were completed on Sunday, the matches sponsored by Kloses Supermarkets were played at the Lenswood Bowling Club. The finalists will play next Sunday again at Lenswood. Ladies Semi Finalists are Lenswood v Woodside and Lobethal v Hahndorf. In the men's competition Hahndorf will play Meadows and Mt Barker will play Lobethal.

Hills Championship Fours

Four teams have won through to the Semi Finals of the Hills Champion of Champions Open Fours tournament The matches were played at Mt Pleasant on reasonably quick greens during the evening. Although the tournament is billed as an open competition there were no ladies involved with the finalists. Meadows will play Gumeracha in one semi final with Lenswood playing Mt Pleasant in the other Semi Final. A definite date has been set for the Finals at Mt Pleasant on Friday 2nd March 2018.

THE HBA Champion of Champions Fours sponsored by KLOSES supermarkets have been cancelled due to high temperatures forecast for Friday 19th January at Mt Pleasant. LOBETHAL WIN OPEN TRIPLES.

Lobethal have won the Hills Bowling Association Open Gender Triples Champion of Champion's tournament. Their win was back to back after winning last season. They appeared to have the match in the bag early but their opponents from Mt Barker made a match of it. The tournament sponsored by Warren Murdoch was played at Gumeracha over two weeks.

HILLS LADIES WIN STATE PAIRS

Congratulations Christine (Hahndorf BC) and Alex Reynolds (Woodside BC), who were victorious in the Women's State Pairs on the final day of Champions Week at Murray Bridge. The competition has been running since 1931 and they are the first Hills Bowling Association combination to win this title since inception.

Woodside win Harrison Shield

Hahndorf Bowling Club hosted the 2017 Harrison Shield with all ten clubs participating. Woodside were the eventual winners with maximum points, winning both their fours and their pairs matches. In second place was Lobethal, winning both of their fours matches and one of their two pairs matches. Mt. Pleasant were in the running to win overall but lost their last fours match to finish third.

CHANGE'S to HBA MATCH RULES.

Club delegates have voted to change the start time for both Saturday and Mid Week matches to 1.00 pm. from the old 1.30 pm start with roll up's now due to start at 12.30pm. The new start time will be applicable for all matches played from next Saturday 21st October and next week Wednesday 25th October. Matches scheduled for Wednesday 18th will begin at the old time of 1.30pm. as there has not been sufficient time to inform all players. Club delegates also have voted to play 21 ends in the Saturday competition, leaving the Saturday division 1 competition to stand alone with 25 ends. In ex...

LADIES PATRONS DAY AT MT PLEASANT. The opening of the Thursday Ladies Pennant Bowling Season kicked off to a great start, hosted by last year's winners Mt Pleasant Bowling Club. Results of the Player Questionnaire.

A questionnaire had been emailed to all Hills bowlers listed with an email address on the Hills web Site. The results have been calculated and are now available under the heading of "Club Tournaments" on the home page. The Hills have 512 registered bowlers, with a little over 300 with email addresses. We managed to receive 167 returns. The Hills Executive thank each of you for your response, we were quite happy with that amount of returns. Some of the main answers are listed on the next page.

2017 Annual General Meeting

The Hills Annual General Meeting was held at Lobethal on Monday 15th May 2017. At that meeting there was one change to the Executive committee with Bill Mayes stepping down and Beth Young replacing him as a committee person. Graham Weyland remains the President with all other positions the same as last season.

Men's Pairs Winners

Following the elimination rounds, Oakbank and Uraidla played off for the Men's champion of champion's final.The Oakbank pair of Arthur Scott and David Moate got away to a good start against their Uraidla opponents and finished up winning 19 shots to 10 shots.
