SECOND NIGHT OF PRESIDENT’S CUP
The HBA President’s Cup continued last Friday night, with the Woodside Bowling Club hosting the event.
Six sides (comprising five players each) will battle out in a pairs and triples format over four weeks of competition.
Cindy Falco’s “Annoying Orange” side took on Sheryle Joseph’s “Goldfinger” side in a very close match up. Neville Mansell and Cindy held a comfortable 11-7 lead after ten ends in the pairs, only to be overtaken by Paul Arnup and David Wuttke – winning four of the last five ends to take the match 14-13. Greg Gage filled in as side captain for injured Sheryle Joseph, and led his triples team to a 16-13 win over Ted Robinson, to give the Orange side the major points.
In the family derby, Butch Mik’s “Red Hot Chilli Peppers” faced off against Tony Mik’s “Green Masters”. Tony skippered his triples team in tight match against his son, going down 17-12, while Mark Schutt and Cheryl Thompson continued their dominance for the Reds in the pairs, downing David Freebairn and Rhys Marsland 27-10.
The final match saw the Blue side, Brian Scown’s “Bowling Stones” take on Val Deeble’s “Yellow Jacks”. Brian skippered the triples against Matthew Bing, but was never in the race, going down 7-28. Geoff Deeble and Jay Maslen trailed Richard Crocker and Jamie Burt 9-12 after ten ends in the pairs, but took collected seven shots in the closing ends to win 17-13.

Next week’s event will be held on Friday night at the Gumeracha Bowling Club. The club will open at 5.30pm, with hot food and bar facilities available throughout the evening, and play commencing at 6.30pm.
