Vale David Bryant 1939-2020
The world bowling community mourns the loss of arguably the greatest lawn bowler of all time – David John Bryant CBE.
Bryant was born in England in 1931, and rose to bowls prominence winning his first world title in 1966.
Bryant won eleven World Outdoor titles (including three singles), four Commonwealth Games gold medals, three World Indoor singles and six pairs (with partner Tony Allcock).
At National level he won the UK Singles Championship six times between 1960 and 1975 – as well as a further 10 titles in pairs, triples and fours.
He was awarded an MBE in 1969 and a CBE for services to bowls in 1980.
Well known for his trademark pipe – smoking during a match did not seem out of place during the 60’s and 70’s.
Bryant continued to bowl for his local club right up until his peaceful passing on 27th August 2020.
