VALE – MERV MILES
We are deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of gentleman and esteemed colleague, Merv Miles, of the Gumeracha Club.
Merv passed away last Friday, after a short illness, surrounded by family at the Gumeracha Hospital. Merv was 94 years old.
Merv was a highly respected member of the local community – with significant involvement over a long period of time with the Gumeracha Football Club and Gumeracha Bowling Club.
Merv was twice President of the Hills Bowling Association – serving from1990-92 and 1993-94 – investing a total of 10 years on the management committee of the HBA. He was awarded life membership in the late ’90s, one of only five in the Association – and has served as an active and interested Patron since 2009.
Merv was front and centre at the bowling club when I commenced playing at Gumeracha 22 years ago – and has been a constant source of guidance and sensibility since. As mentioned, he was always interested in the functioning and betterment of the sport – and refreshingly calm, polite, and measured in all of his dealings with people. A true gentleman, and a loss to the entire community.
We send our condolences to Merv’s wife Kath, and children Debra and Don and their extended family.
