HBA CHAMPIONSHIP PAIRS 2024

This Friday night (16th February) the opening rounds of both men’s and women’s Champ of Champ pairs will be played at the Lenswood Bowling Club.

The twilight events have proven very successful – however, the HBA is mindful that the pairs format of 2/2/2/2 played over 15 ends can drag on a bit late. It is also preferable if the majority of matches can be played early in the evening, with the latter rounds played under the best possible lighting conditions available at the host club.

Accordingly, having conferred with the Lenswood Bowling Club about it’s lighting, some minor amendments have been made to the draw.

In the men’s section – the Handorf vs Gumeracha match will be brough forward to start at 5.30pm – with the winner still progressing directly through to the second week. The second round match between Woodside vs Meadows will remain scheduled at 7.30pm – but will be shifted to rink 4.

In the women’s section – the Oakbank vs Woodside match will be brought forward to start at 5.30pm – with the winner still progressing directly through to the second week. The second round match between Mt. Barker and Lenswood will remain scheduled to start at 7.30pm – but will be shifted to rink 2.

If this causes any clubs involved any difficulty, please contact the Association Secretary Terry Stephen as soon as possible.

Please note that the actual draw remains the same – except two matches will start earlier, to ensure that the four remaining evening matches can be played under the best lights at Lenswood.

An amended copy of the draw is attached.

As usual, the host club will be making hot food available from 5.00pm onwards – with smoked sausages in pita wraps with Mexican salad and tangy lime dressing – at $6.00 each. Tito’s Bar will be open throughout the evening – with specials on Corona beers and tequilla cocktails – to be enjoyed under the new pergola area, to the background of music from the 50’s to the 90’s.

Please note that the Uraidla men and Gumeracha women will be meeting opponents who have already played a first round match – and therefore they will be entitled to practice on a neutral rink prior to the match – rink 7 will be made available on the night.

Also, the Lenswood Club will be open from 4.30 pm to 9.00pm each Tuesday and Thursday – so anyone wishing to have a practice on the green prior to the pairs competiton are welcome to come along either night, and enjoy the hospitality of the bar afterwards.
