UPCOMING LADIES’ EVENTS
The 2023-2024 season is about to get underway – with the HBA Ladies Patron’s Day, Lorna Rowley Shield and Pitcher Shield events fast approaching.
The HBA Patron’s Day is the official opening to the Thursday Ladies Pennant competition, and honors HBA Patrons Merv and Kath Miles of Gumeracha.
The event will be held at the Lobethal Bowling Club on Thursday 12th October 2023, with play commencing at 10.00am sharp.
Each of the nine ladies’ sides competing in the Thursday pennant competition will enter a team, with an additional side being entered by Lenswood to even up the numbers. It will be a cosmopolitan format – with a fours match to start the day – a split lunch session while the teams divide up for pairs matches – followed by a final fours match.
Lobethal Club will be providing a sit-down lunch at a cost of $20 per player (payable to the club on the day).

This is an ideal way to start the season, brush off the cobwebs, have a bowl and a chat with friends, and enjoy a catch up over lunch. It is also a way to impress the Association selectors, who will be picking players for the Lorna Rowley and Pitcher Shields, to be played in the following weeks.
This year the Regional shield events will be held in reverse order.
The Lorna Rowley Shield will be held at Murray Bridge Bowling Club on Tuesday 14th November 2023, with play commencing at 10.00am sharp.
This annual event sees representative sides from Region 6 (Eastern Region) and Greater Southern compete. Twelve teams (48 players) will be required from our region.
Should you wish to nominate – please click on the attached link to Bowlslink – and complete your details. Otherwise ask your club secretary to complete the nomination on your behalf. It is a simple process that takes less than one minute. Don’t forget to include your preferred shirt size. Please note that only nominations entered via Bowlslink will be accepted.
Entries will close at midnight on Tuesday 31st October 2023 – so that the completed list can be provided to the HBA selector in a timely manner.
The Pitcher Shield will be held at the Jervois Bowling Club on Friday 1st October 2023, with play commencing at 10.00am sharp.
This annual event sees representative sides from HBA, Lower Murray, and Southern Mallee compete for the shield named in honor of bowls stalwart Gaynor Pitcher. Play will be fours – with 16 ladies selected from each Association. Host club Jervois will provide a sit down lunch – with the HBA meeting the cost for our players and Association representatives.
It is expected that players who nominate for selection will be available to play in both events. If you are unable to play in one of the events – but feel that you should nonetheless be considered for selection in the other match – please nominate online, and then contact HBA Selector Chris Jarman 0407 718 895.
