HBA LADIES’ PATRONS DAY 2022 AND PITCHER SHIELD SELECTION

The annual season opener was held on Thursday 6th October 2022.

Held in honour of HBA Patrons Kath and Merv Miles of the Gumeracha Club – the event saw forty ladies enjoying the hospitality of the Mt. Barker Bowling Club in a day of social competition.

Pleasant conditions under the dome saw teams from Mt. Barker, Lobethal, Gumeracha, Lenswood, Woodside, Uraidla, and Meadows compete for the Patron’s Shield.

The usual Cosmopolitan format saw everyone compete in two fours matches, and a pairs – with total shots for the day tallied to determine the winner.

The traditionally strong clubs of Mt. Barker, Lobethal, and Woodside each fielded two sides – with the remaining clubs making up a ten team round robin competition.

The Uraidla team skippered by Sue Carter only managed wins in two of their four matches, but their consistent performance accrued 31 shots, and saw them take out third place.

Woodside Green headed by Dot Keough won their opening three matches, and secured second place with 34 shots.

A strong performance by Lobethal Green skipper Chris Jarman, and her team of Bev Gericke, Lindy Harten, and Lyn Harten saw them take a runaway lead with 46 shots to win the event – and earn the honour of Lobethal Club hosting the event next year.

Many thanks to all of the members of the Mt. Barker Club who contributed to make this such a successful day – especially Raelene Corner, Christine Nicholls, Rhonda Cowan, Joy Crest, and Anthony “Trap” Daw.

Association selectors also picked sides for the forthcoming Pitcher Shield match – to be held at Mannum on Friday 14th October 2022 – when representative teams from HBA will compete against Lower Murray and Southern Mallee associations.  Teams are as follows:

TEAM 1 TEAM 2 TEAM 3 TEAM 4

SECOND Susan Carter Joanne Schapel Cheryl Thompson Leanne Attard

All players should be at the Mannum Bowling Club by 9.15am so that the remaining association shirts and bowls stickers can be distributed, prior to the commencement of play at 10.00am sharp.

All players and officials will be provided with a sit-down lunch by the host club – with the cost to the HBA attendees being met by the Association.
