HBA LADIES TAKE OUT THE 2022 PITCHER SHIELD

Despite most of the State enduring storms and torrential rains in the preceding 24 hours – the weather cleared to produce ideal conditions at Mannum for the annual Pitcher Shield.

The prestigious event sees teams of elite ladies from each of Hills, Lower Murray, and Southern Mallee Associations compete against one another in a fours format.  Each Association fielded four teams – with each competing in two matches against the other Associations.

The first round saw a very even contest.

Woodside’s Annette Forbes, and Meadows’ Cheryle Joseph skippered their respective teams to narrow wins – but Di Frank and Jill Barr of Southern Mallee, and Pam Bormann and Ruth Cross of Lower Murray also secured victories – to see all Associations go into the lunch break with two wins and two losses.

However, the afternoon session saw the HBA ladies power away.

Forbes and Joseph followed up with consecutive wins – while Sue Maddern of Hahndorf, and Christine Jarman of Lobethal captained their teams to victory – to record a clean sweep.

HBA ran away clear winners with six wins from eight matches – leaving Lower Murray and Southern Mallee to share the consolation prize.

Regional selectors will now consider player selection for the upcoming Lorna Rowley Shield – to be played at Strathalbyn on Tuesday 8th November 2022.

Congratulations to the members of the winning side:
