HBA WIN THE SCHROEDER SHIELD 2023
The annual Schroeder Shield was held at the Mannum Bowling Club on Sunday 17th December 2023.
This prestigious event sees the top bowlers from Hills Bowling Association, Lower Murray, and Southern Mallee, battle out a fours competition for the coveted Schroeder Shield – named in honour of Murrayville legend, the late Ken Schroeder.
A push by Association selectors saw the HBA field its strongest side in many years, in a bid to break the Lower Murray strangle hold on the competition.
HBA skippers Darren Stanbury and Jay Shepherd finished with four wins from their four matches – while Association stalwart Neville Mansell recorded three wins and a draw. Southern Mallee have struggled in this event in recent years, and finished with 31 points, while a strong Lower Murray side accumulated 40 points. However HBA came home strong to pick up 68 points, and wrestle back the shield.
HBA Chairman of Selectors, Mike Guerin, acknowledged the effort put in by co selectors Butch Mik and Scott Pittaway, to ensure that HBA presented the strongest possible side.
