LOBETHAL LADIES BREAK THE DROUGHT

The Hills Bowling Association season concluded on Thursday.  The final event, the Ladies Pennant Grand Final, was played in glorious conditions at the Uraidla Bowling Club.

Reigning premiers Woodside Blue were attempting to take out their third consecutive premiership – however Lobethal had won their two previous meetings in rounds 9 and 18, and had finished the minor round as clear favourites.

Christine Jarman got her Lobethal charges off to a great start against Annette Forbes, whilst team mate Sandra Weinert struggled early against Shelly Howe.  As the tea break approached, Jarman held sway 15-4, while Weinert held only a narrow 8-7 lead.  But a score of seven shots to Weinert’s rink saw them take an eight shot lead into the break.

Jarman and Forbes traded shots up until the 17th end – with Lobethal retaining a 19-8 lead. However a full count of eight shots on the 19th end saw Jarman run out a comfortable winner 36-10.  Weinert only had to play conservative bowls on the adjoining rink to hold on for a 20-14 win over Howe – and give Lobethal a much deserved flag, and breaking a premiership drought that had lasted for decades.
