OAKBANK REGAIN THE HARRISON SHIELD

The annual Harrison Shield event resumed on Sunday, after a two year hiatus, brought about by Covid restrictions and other external factors.

The winners from two years ago, Mt. Barker, earned the right to host the event – with the undercover facility at Mt. Barker providing players and spectators welcome relief from the weekend’s cold and wet weather.

All nine HBA clubs fielded a team of four players (with Mt. Barker providing two teams to even up the draw).  The cosmopolitan format saw bowlers play an opening fours match, before being split into pairs to enable one team to play while the other enjoyed lunch.  The day closed with all players on the green for a final fours match.  Overall shots accrued determined the winners.

Host club Mt. Barker were expected to do well – Christine Nicholls, Ted Charman, John Corner, and Jay Shepherd won all four matches, to finish in third spot with 43 shots.

Lobethal always present strongly at Association level  – with Brian Scown, Brad Chard, Anthony “Butch” Mik, and Darren Stanbury coming in second with 47 shots.

Oakbank once again fielded a strong side, and were successful in regaining the shield – with Roger Faehrmann, Terry Holding, Paul Yeates, and Guy Stanley amassing 51 shots to win the event.
