OPENING NIGHT OF PRESIDENT’S CUP

The opening night of President’s Cup was held at the Hahndorf Bowling Club on Friday 18th November 2022.

Despite some terrible weather of recent times, and a downpour during the afternoon, the skies cleared to provide perfect conditions for the first round of this twilight event.

Sides led by new captains – Scott Pittaway (Red team) and Mike Guerin (Yellow team) faced off in the first round.  Reds’ Val Deeble, Ted Robinson, and skipper Butch Mik were downed 9-12 in a close triples encounter with Yellows’ George Coleiro, Mike Baronaitis, and skipper Stephen Tarr.  However, Jay Maslen and Scott Pittaway turned the tables in the pairs match to defeat Steve Knipe and Mike Guerin 20-15 – giving the Red’s the overall win on the night 29-27.

In the second match, last year’s winner Neville Mansell (Green team) took on the Blues, captained by Jamie Burt.  Blues’ Terry Holding, Dave Grego, and Rob Hutchinson started slowly in the triples, and were unable to make up any ground in their 12-18 loss to Alan Dunn, Dave Freebairn, and Neville Mansell. Again, the pairs tried to rescue the situation, with Blues’ Richard Crocker and Jamie Burt overcoming Mark Schutt and Brian Scown 16-12. However Greens retained the overall lead 30-28.

All of the results will be available to view on Bowlslink as soon as the matches are completed.

Thank you to the Hahndorf Bowling Club for hosting the night and embracing the event.

Next Friday night’s matches will be played at Lenswood – Blues vs Reds, and Yellows vs Greens.

Further details will follow.
