PITCHER SHIELD 2020

Mannum – Friday 16th October 2020.

The annual Pitcher Shield saw representative ladies’ teams from HBA, Lower Murray, and Southern Mallee battle it out at Mannum Bowling Club.

Conditions were testing for all players, with cold drizzly conditions – but also with the Mannum green running considerably quicker than our players are accustomed to.

Nonetheless, our teams adapted quickly.

Lobethal’s Robyn Stanbury skippered her rink of Julia Gadsdon, Brenda Thomas, and Raelene Corner to wins over Robyn Burdett LMBA 12-11 and Joy Eckerman SMBA 10-4.

Mt. Barker’s Maggie Turner lead her team of Lee Attard, Liz Love, and Bev Gericke to strong victories over Zona Wait SMBA 22-13 and Karen Kneebone LMBA 17-4.

Hahndorf’s Sue Maddern guided Chris Nicholls, Karen Derkin, and Janice Smith to success over Sue Adamson SMBA 22-11 and Pam Bormann LMBA 9-6.

Finally, Meadow’s skipper Sheryl Joseph along with Deb Corner, Dot Keough, and Sandra Hole battled out an 11-11 draw with Heather Fromm LMBA, before comfortably accounting for Barb Merritt SMBA 11-2.

These results saw HBA run out clear winners ahead of Lower Murray, with the luckless Southern Mallee players unable to secure a winning rink.

Many thanks to Mannum Bowling Club for hosting the event, Helen Lindner of Eastern Region for organising the tournament, and HBA Selectors and team managers Alex Reynolds and Shelly Howe.  Thank you also to all players who nominated for the side, and the loyal spectators who braved the less than ideal weather to support the teams.

Regional selectors will now be considering sides for the forthcoming Lorna Rowley Shield, to be played at Murray Bridge on 10th December 2020 against Southern Region.
