SATURDAY PREMIERS

The HBA season concluded on Saturday, with Oakbank and Gumeracha hosting the remaining finals in glorious conditions.

Lobethal recorded back to back Division I premierships after defeating Hahndorf 61-52. Rob Hutchinson secured a rink for Hahndorf, but was unable to make up the deficit with Lobethal’s Wayne Zilm and Neville Mansell both victorious.

Uraidla #1 made it three in a row after downing Lobethal #1 57-53 in the Division II final. It was an extremely close match, with the scores across all three rinks level in the late stages. However despite Chris Jarman and Peter Oborn picking up narrow wins for Lobethal, Uraidla’s Craig Higginson stormed home with nine shots in the final three ends to grab overall victory for his side.

Mt. Barker #1 took the honours over Lobethal #1 in Division III Gold. Lawrie Cresp hung on for a 19-18 win, but the match was already sewn up courtesy of Allen McMahon’s 32-12 victory.

In the final match of the season, Mt. Barker #2 overpowered Lobethal #2 in the Division III Silver grand final. Darren Ardlie played some crucial skipper bowls in his 27-18 win, while Peter Stibbs’ rink showed no mercy in their 33-10 victory.
