SCHROEDER SHIELD 2023

Congratulations to all HBA players who competed in the annual Schroeder Shield match – held at the Murray Bridge Bowling Club on Sunday 22nd January 2023.

Eight teams of fours from each of HBA, Lower Murray, and Southern Mallee competed against one another for the prestigious shield.  Four matches of 10 ends were played over the day, with the outcome determined by points for wins.

At the lunch break, HBA 15 points trailed Lower Murray 20 points, and the much improved Southern Mallee side just behind us with 13 points.

The contest remained tight after lunch – with HBA picking up 17 points, Lower Murray 20, and Southern Mallee 12 points.

Lower Murray therefore took overall honours 40 points to 32 – however HBA were unlucky to have lost four matches by a solitary shot, which would have reversed the result.

The full list of results is attached.

Great outcomes for Scott Pittaway, Geoff Deeble, and Butch Mik who skippered their teams to wins in three of the four matches – and congratulations to those selected for the Region 6 Country Round Robin team – Scott and Geoff, as well as Rob Hutchinson, Stephen Tarr, and Peter Mangelsdorf.

Thank you to the selectors Peter Mangelsdorf and Rob Hutchinson for their efforts in chasing up players and putting together a highly competitive side.

It is well understood that at this time of year bowlers are reluctant to commit to additional events. Almost every Sunday from October through to March is taken up with State events, HBA twilight events occupy many Friday nights over the same period, players have Wednesday and Saturday pennants, as well as club championship matches, and general club duties.

However, special mention to the regular Division II bowlers who came forward to represent the Association – Tony Mik, Matt Browning, Kevin Schulz, Tony Drummond, Graham Weyland, Terry Stephen, Peter Oborn, Mick Glasson, Bob Edwards, and reserve Alan Dunn.
