SECOND ROUND OF PRESIDENT’S CUP

The second round of the President’s Cup was held at the Lenswood Bowling Club on Friday 25th November 2022.

Jamie Burt’s Blue team had more late changes, with Val Deeble replaced by Bill Robertson, and Geoff Deeble returning to field his spot as skipper in the triples. Robertson and Deeble combined with Terry Holding to take on Scott Pittaway, Ted Robinson, and Lee Attard for the Reds.  It was a case of experience over youth as the Blues eclipsed their younger opponents 15-5.  Jamie Burt and his Hahndorf team mate Richard Crocker took on Jay Maslen and Butch Mik in the pairs, and whilst the scores were close mid way through the match, Burt surged ahead to take the encounter 15-11.  The clean sweep gave the Blue team 30 shots and a maximum haul of 10 points.

The other match was a much closer encounter, with the Green team captain Neville Mansell skippering Alan Dunn to a 16-11 defeat of Mike Guerin and team mate Mike Baronaitis.  The Yellow Team were hoping for redemption in the triples, with George Coleiro, Steve Knipe, and Stephen Tarr leading 15-13 with two ends remaining. However, Mark Schutt, Brian Scown and Dave Freebairn picked up three shots on the closing two ends to sneak home 16-15, and likewise give the Greens a clean sweep.

Neville’s Green Hornets sit atop the ladder as the only undefeated side. however, with only one more minor round to go, either the Blues or Reds could pip them with a win next Friday night.

Meadows Bowling Club will host round three on Friday night – when Jamie Burt’s Blues take on Mike Guerin’s Yellow team, and Neville Mansell will try to consolidate top spot when his team lines up against Scott Pittaway’s Reds.

Matches will commence at 6.30pm – with hot food and full bar facilities available from 5.30pm onwards.
