SECRETARY’S REPORT 2022-2023

I am pleased to have completed my thirteenth season as a member of the HBA Executive Committee, including my eighth season as Secretary.

From an HBA perspective, this was a highly successful season.

All pennant matches, shield matches, President’s Cup matches, Champ of Champ events, and finals were successfully conducted – with the weather throughout the season being very kind, and minimal disruption caused by Covid.

The Association twilight events have gone from strength to strength – with the revamped President’s Cup matches, and the Champ of Champ events played with great enthusiasm and spectator support.

The re-jigged Wednesday Division I format of two bowl triples proved successful – albeit that there will always be players who do not readily adopt change, or fail to see the overall advantages of varying formats to attract players.

Surprisingly, the task of being the HBA Secretary this season was fraught with less difficulty than usual.  There were only a few issues that arose at Club level that required Executive intervention, and I was fortunate to be involved with a sensible and informed group of people on the Committee, who give all matters due and fair consideration, without favour to their own clubs. Many thanks to Tony, Dora, Adrian, Val, Graham, and Alex.  I look forward to working with new committee members – Mike Guerin of Uraidla, and Barry Lenny of Lobethal.

Special thanks to Vice President Dora Fuda for all of her assistance, she undertook all of the programming and Bowlslink set up for the season, in addition to running events and finals.  I am sure she will do extremely well in her new role next season.

Nonetheless, there remains a considerable amount of work to be undertaken in this role – and I urge members to consider taking on the vacant role of Assistant Secretary.
