TREASURER’S REPORT 2023-2024

This will definitely be my last season as the Association Treasurer – I feel that ten years in the position is enough for any committee member.

Although there is a bank combined balance of $9,797.88, there was only a profit of $540.68 for the past season.  This profit only arose because the position of Assistant Secretary was again not filled, and thus we saved the honorarium of $1,100.00.  Otherwise, the Association would have made a loss of nearly $560.00, on top of a loss the previous season.

Some steps will need to be taken to redress this trend, especially if increases are made next season to the various honorariums.

The Executive Committee is recommending an increase to the various honorariums – Secretary $3,300 to $4,000 – Assistant Secretary $1,100 to $2,000 – Treasurer $1,100 to $2,000 – and Pennant Reporters $330 to $400 each. This would be an additional $2,990.00.

Two possibilities for consideration are:

  • Increasing the player registration fee from $20.00 pp to perhaps $25.00pp – which would give us additional revenue of approximately $2,000.00.
  • Ceasing payment of player lunches for the various shield events – which includes Pitcher, Lorna Rowley, Schroeder, Nolan Walker, and Talunga.  Last season those expenses were $1,885.00.

Most of the other income and expenses for the season were cost neutral, except of course for the cost of shield match lunches, and a small fee for the cost of complimentary drinks on the final night of President’s Cup.

We have also received recent advice from the Australian Taxation Office regarding new mandatory reporting requirement requirements – which will impact all not-for-profit organisations – and in the case of the HBA, impose further commitments upon both the Treasurer and Secretary.

I have enjoyed my time as the Association Treasurer.  A big thank you to President Dora and Secretary Terry for all of their support and assistance, especially during the periods when my health has suffered (exacerbated by a period of four months when Covid took its toll).
