VALE – TREVOR GRIGGS

On Thursday morning we bade farewell to bowls colleague Trevor Griggs.

Trevor was born into a dairy farming family at Prospect Hill in 1939, and remained an integral part of the local community for the rest of his life.

Son Geoffrey spoke of his father’s working life as a farmer, timber mill hand, and local council employee – and his love of sport and community involvement which embraced his life.

Trevor met wife Gloria at the Echunga Dance Hall in 1960, marrying in 1963 – a life long union extending over nearly sixty years.  Proud parents of Anthony, Geoffrey and wife Monica, and doting grandparents and great grandparents.

Trevor was an avid junior tennis player, and remained a strong supporter of the Prospect Hill Tennis Club – awarded life membership for his contribution to junior development within the club. He was a stalwart of the Meadows Football Club – holding positions as a committee member over many years, grounds attendant, and runner for matches – for which his efforts also earned him life membership.

In 1995 Trevor and wife Gloria joined the Meadows Bowling Club – where he served for 27 years as a player, committee member, worker, and friend.  A mere few lines in this article does not do justice to nearly three decades  of involvement with Meadows and the Hills Bowling Association.

Trevor will be remembered as a quiet natured and affable man – devoted to his family, loyal to his friends, and generous of his time to the community.

I will personally remember Trevor as one of a long line of true gentlemen who have graced the Meadows Bowling Club over many years.
