VIVA MEXICO ! CHAMPIONSHIP PAIRS AT LENSWOOD

Tito’s Bar returned to the Lenswood Bowling Club, as they hosted the opening rounds of the HBA Championship Pairs.

Mexican food, tequila cocktails, and lots of music – had the crowd pumping as the best men’s and women’s pairs from each club battled for overall honours.

In the men’s section Lenswood’s Terry Stephen and Andrew Mann downed Oakbank’s Bob Fiddes and Allen Hughes in the opening round, and hung on for a 16-15 win against Uraidla’s Matthew Browning and Craig Higginson – to secure a semi- final birth. Lobethal’s Neville Mansell and Joe Conte progressed directly through after winning a quality match against Mt. Barker’s Jose Mena and Wilhelm Wurfel. Gumeracha’s Tony Biocic and Macca McWaters survived by one shot over Hahndorf’s Chris Rowe and Phil Nagel, and will meet Woodside’s Peter Mangelsdorf and Bob Hahesy in the other semi, after they defeated Meadows’ Colin Traeger and Des Herbig in a very entertaining match.

In the women’s section Hahndorf’s Sue Hutchinson and Sue Maddern comfortably accounted for both Lobethal (Chris Jarman and Bev Gericke) and Gumeracha – and will now meet Uraidla’s Di Willsmore and Kath Bowman in the semi final, who downed Meadows’. Mt. Barker’s Chris Nicholls and Raelene Corner were too strong for Lenswood’s Di and Renee Green, and have progressed through to meet Woodside’s Julie Johnson and Julie Rolland, who survived a nail biter against Oakbank’s Linda Carter and Wendy Sorrell.

Play will resume this coming Friday night. Semi-final matches will commence at 5.30pm – with the respective grand finals expected to take place at about 8.00pm.

There will be hot food available from 5.00pm onwards – with smoked sausages in pita wraps with Mexican salad and tangy lime dressing – at $6.00 each. Tito’s Bar will be open throughout the evening – with specials on Corona beers and tequila cocktails – to be enjoyed under the new pergola area, to the background of retro hits from the 50’s and 60’s.

The club will ensure that there is indoor viewing available, and outdoor patio heaters will be available to help keep spectators warm as the evening cools down.
